Welcome to the heat of summer

Comments

Well, we’re finally getting some hot summer days here in Blacksburg and it looks like it will continue through the early part the upcoming week. No matter how hot it gets here in Southwest Virginia, its still infinitely better than being in DC. Beginning in early spring and not ending until late fall, DC smothers you with an oppressive humidity that feels like 100% every single day. You can’t even enjoy being outside up there. Climate is probably one of the easiest to identify benefits of living in Blacksburg. You’re in the mountains so the summer days are hot with relatively low humidity, but the evenings are cool with nice breezes.

The lesson – don’t take for granted how your surroundings can affect you and your team’s mood and how that will impact business. The simple fact is that it’s been almost a year since I moved EvolvePoint to Blacksburg and even though the stress levels of running a startup haven’t decreased, simply being in this environment makes it easier to digest. Nice weather, beautiful scenery, and wonderful natural places to relieve stress can’t be overlooked. The phrase “quality of life” gets thrown around quite a bit and it’s almost a cliché. But more and more businesses are taking quality of life into serious consideration for locating their businesses. I did and it’s been a great decision.
